Audi Design Student Creates the Trimaran Hybrid Yacht

Audi's concept design studio in Munich came up with an interesting proposition for a luxury yacht that would wear the four-ring logo. The Trimaran is the project work of Pforzheim Technical College student Stefanie Behringer, who explains the idea behind the study:“The Audi Trimaran is a new concept which integrates two jet skis in a motorboat. The hull architecture is
based on a trimaran, consisting of a main center hull supported by two smaller outrigger hulls. Two jet skis are stored inside pods in the outriggers. The main boat is powered by two lightweight and efficient Audi TDI diesel engines, whereas the jet skis are electrically-driven,” said Behringer.
The jet ski engines can be used to propel the yacht, provided that the required speed is not higher than 8 knots. At higher speeds of up to 30 knots, the two diesel engines can be switched on continuously. When more powerful acceleration is needed, the electric motors in the jet skis support the diesel engines for a faster and more fuel-efficient journey. At the same time, the diesel engines recharge the batteries in the two jet skis in the same way it’s done in a hybridcar.
The Trimaran is 15 meters long and 6.4 meters wide due to its slender center hull. The boat can accommodate 12 persons on the deck, with six berths available in the lower compartment. The silver frame that links the outer pods with the main hull gives the Trimaran a high-tech look that reminds Audi's aluminum frame structures. Too bad Audi has no plans for building the Trimaran.

STaSIS Engineering Gives the Audi S5 Cabriolet a Power Boost

North American aftermarket specialist STaSIS Engineering has released a new performance package for the Audi S5 Cabriolet in the UK. The STaSIS Engineering S5 Cabriolet Challenge Edition features an upgrade kit that includes an engine tune, Ohlins performance suspension, monobloc brake calipers and a limited-slip differential.The 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine develops 410 horsepower,
an increase of 77 horsepower compared to the factory S5 Cabriolet. Torque is also up on the S5 Cabriolet Challenge Edition, from 344 lb-ft (465 Nm) to 370 lb-ft (500 Nm). The power boost is due to the ECU remap and the fitting of a high performance exhaust system.
Naturally, the car's performance numbers are also improved, with STaSIS' S5 Cabriolet hitting 60 mph (98 km/h) from a standing start in 4.3 seconds, 0.7 seconds faster than the standard model. In order to improve braking distances, the S5 convertible is fitted with Alcon 6-piston monobloc calipers, 370 mm two-piece front discs, high performance pads and braided stainless steel brake lines.
To improve handling, the suspension uses Ohlins SL dampers with two settings (for ride comfort and better response) and adjustable ride height. The package is rounded off by 20-inch ultra-lightweight forged aluminum wheels shod in high performance low profile tires.
STaSIS performance components are available separately or as a package through APS of Brackley and STaSIS dealers across the UK.

Did Audi Import Its New A6 Avant Commercial from Detroit? Chrysler Thinks So

It’s not uncommon these days for certain companies to reproduce (or at least try to) the styling and/or the available technology features of Germany’s finest carmakers but this time we have a story that turns the tables the other way around. In mid-May, Audi aired a new commercial for the just launched A6 Avant in its home market. The ad shows the executive station wagon
model cruising through streets of a German city as a version of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" song plays in the background.If you watch the commercial in the video after the jump and it reminds you of Chrysler’s “Imported from Detroit” ad for the new 200 sedan from this year's Super Bowl event, rest assured you are not alone.
"It is absolutely shocking," said Joel Martin, manager of Eight Mile Style, the company that handles the song licensing for Eminem. "We believe Audi not only used 'Lose Yourself' to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler's commercial campaign,” Martin added.
Chrysler also believes that the Germans copied their commercial. “Apparently someone believes that the definition of copyright laws is the right to copy others' materials," said Gualberto Ranieri, a Chrysler Group spokesperson.
Eminem’s publisher Eight Mile Style released a statement saying that it will send a cease-and-desist order to Audi while it will also seek damages from the German carmaker.

Audi A4 2.0 TFSI Convertible Tuned to 260HP by Sport-Wheels

Even if it has been out of production for some years, the Audi A4 Convertible continues to command the attention of the tuning industry. Sport-Wheels, one of the lesser-known tuning companies in Germany, has presented a new take on the soft-top model with a package for the 2.0-liter TFSI version comprising both mechanical and cosmetic updates.The tune starts from the A4's engine bay with a reprogrammed ECU and a custom sports exhaust system resulting in a 60 horsepower and 92Nm increase over the standard model for a total output of 260HP and 372Nm (274.4 lb-ft) of peak torque. The package also includes sportier suspension bits from KW .
On the outside, Sport-Wheels kept it simple by adding 20-inch Eta Beta Tettsut X-ceramic alloy rims shod in Dunlop Sport Maxx GT tires in the dimension of 245/30-20, and twin tailpipes on both corners of the rear bumper.

Acura to Unveil 2012 TL Sedan at Chicago Auto Show in February

The next Chicago Auto Show, to be held for the public from February 11 to 20, will host the debut of the updated for the updated Acura TL. Honda's luxury division simply stated that the TL will be "newly refined" for the 2012 model year, without releasing any more details. The current, fourth generation TL was released onto the market in late 2008 and is offered with a 280HP 3.5-liter V6 and front wheel drive, or with a 305HP 3.7-liter V6 and the firm's all-wheel drive system. We'll post any updates on Acura's mid-size sedan as soon as they become available.
